Now that Thanksgiving shopping is finished, let’s check the stats for online shopping this year?
According to new stats from Experian Hitwise, Web traffic was up 71% compared to the same time period last year. Online shoppers in the U.S. recorded more than 181 million visits to online retailers, with Amazon taking top honors with 25 million visits on Thanksgiving Day alone. AND, Experian isn’t even counting mobile stats in those figures. In simple terms, compared to last year, online traffic to retail sites increased between 8 and 12 percent just for the holiday week.

Now let’s look at mobile use, PayPal reported the volume of recorded mobile payments worldwide , increased 173 percent compared to the same time period last year. 173 PERCENT ?!?! The total number of mobile shoppers increased 164 percent compared to the same time last year.

Ebay saw a 133 percent increase in mobile shopping compared to 2011. GSI Commerce, owned by eBay, saw mobile sales for its clients jump 170 percent. Fast-forward one day to Black Friday, and PayPal’s figures for mobile shopping get even juicier. PayPal measured a 193 percent increase for mobile payments on Black Friday 2012 versus 2011. Houston produced the most mobile shoppers. Only Chicago and Los Angeles swapped between second and third place on PayPal’s top-five list of U.S. locations that produced the most mobile shopping. Miami and New York took fourth and fifth across both days, respectively. Are you marketing to mobile users?

“Over 10 million photos that mentioned Thanksgiving-themed words in their captions were shared yesterday.” Instagram recently introduced Web-based profiles. Previously, you could only access the service via Android and iOS apps. To help promote those Web profiles, meanwhile, Instagram this week introduced badges, which can be added to your website, blog, or anywhere that you want to link to your Instagram Web profile.
